Existem medicamentos que na são tarjados, ou seja, não necessitam da apresentação de receituário é o caso de analgésicos e outros produtos usados para tratar sintomas ou males menores, como resfriados, azias, dores de cabeça, entre outros. Mas, na compra dos demais medicamentos o paciente deve apresentar a receita médica, que fica armazenada na farmácia onde é feito todo um arquivo que é fiscalizado pela vigilância Sanitária do município.
Segundo a coordenadora da Vigilância Sanitária de Picos, Rita de Cássia, o órgão realiza vistorias constantes e que as punições para os estabelecimentos que estejam vendendo medicamentos sem prescrição medica irão variar dependendo do grau da infração que vão desde aplicação de multa ate a interdição do estabelecimento.
