Me perdoem os politicamente corretos: mas pouca coisa é tão irritante e coletivamente danoso quanto o cigarro. É um negócio que mata quem fuma e também quem está perto, ou seja, quem não tem nada a ver com a história. E é uma praga que em vez de acabar, só se fortalece.
Ou seja, o fumante é um dos poucos desgraçados que agem como terrorista suicida: se mata e leva um bocado consigo.
Antes que venham me criticar sobre o “direito de fumar”, reclamo sobre meu direito de você, fumante, não me matar. Se quer se matar, direito seu, mas não me leve para o inferno contigo. Ou seja: não condeno o seu direito de fumar, que fume, mas bem longe de quem não quer saber de cigarro, ou seja: uma maioria de gente que quer viver!
Se você aí do Brasil se incomoda com o cigarro, na Europa é muito, mas muito pior. Fumar aqui, além de hábito para mais da metade da população, gera um certo status social. Isso é alimentado pela cultura onde as principais fotos de artistas que pairam no imaginário social geralmente têm um cigarro a seu redor ou em sua boca.
Apesar de muitos países proibirem o fumo em locais públicos (não é o caso da Inglaterra, onde no pingo do meio dia se encontra um idiota fumando ao seu lado em pleno local de comida) os fumantes parecem que se espalham como uma praga: ponto para a indústria tabagista e ponto negativo para o sistema público de saúde, que tem, com o dinheiro do contribuinte, gastar imensas cifras para tratar de problemas pneumológicos (muitas vezes câncer) dos fumantes.
O problema do fumante que ele, na maioria das vezes (e aqui é pior, repito!) é um ser sem noção. Acende um cigarro e acha que todo mundo ao redor concorda. Manda fumaça pra tudo quanto é lado e faz questão de fazer publicamente. Enquanto no Brasil a maioria dos fumantes é do sexo masculino, entre idade de 20 a 40 anos, na Europa se fuma desde cedo e enquanto o câncer não chega: se fuma até a morte. É um hábito mais que social, tão social quanto tomarmos um copo d´água em qualquer lugar.
Sei que esse texto não vai acabar com o cigarro na Europa e no Brasil, mas como as terras do Velho Continente são exemplos para muitos (no meu caso: educacional) que o hábito social do cigarro não se expanda em terras brasileiras.
Se há um arrependimento profissional em minha vida foi de não ter me formado médico (não tenho vocação para isso). Se fosse profissional de saúde e atuante na área de pneumologia e oncologia: estaria milionário tratando ou tentando salvar a vida de tantos fumantes.
